Engine
oil or Motor oil is oil used for lubrication of various internal
combustion engines. In engines, machine parts move very closely against
each other causing friction which dissipates otherwise useful power by
converting the energy to heat, which could lead to lesser efficiency
and degradation of the motor. This increases fuel burning up and
decreases power output and can, ultimately, lead to entire engine
failure.
Engine oil creates a separating film between
surfaces of adjacent moving parts to minimize direct contact between
them and so decreasing friction, carry, and generation of excessive
heat, thus shielding the engine. Motor oil also transmits away heat
from moving parts, which is important because materials have a tendency
to become softer and less burnishing-resistant at high temperatures.
